摘要

描述

宋王臺原石,原石於1943年被日軍破壞,應為1943年或之前的作品。
"Sung Wong Toi Hill, Kowloon City, Kowloon, c. 1920s.

The famous boulder bearing the three carved characters is seen on top of the hill. Believed to be the brief resting place of the two young princes of the Song Dynasty during their flight from the Mongol invaders, the hill and the boulder were protected, as sacred relics, by a special ordinance in 1899. The gate, the steps to the inscription and the balustrade around the boulder were erected in 1915. During the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, 1942-45, the hill was levelled and the boulder was broken up in blasting operations on Kai Tak airport. Amazingly, a large portion of the original boulder, with the three historical characters, survived the blasting. it is displayed in a small garden near the original site of the hill."
