鳩（正音：「gau1」；避諱者讀：「kau1」）係種雀，種類唔少，常見嘅有斑鳩、山鳩等。

分佈

斑鳩屬主要分佈響非洲，少數種住亞洲南部熱帶。至少有兩個種而家甚至擴展到其他地方。

灰斑鳩本來分佈響歐亞大陸嘅溫帶地區，從歐洲東南部一直到日本，近年來自然去到歐洲其它地區。1960年到咗英國，此後入愛爾蘭。之後引美國，傳遍各州，1999年美國 22 個州有灰斑鳩，而且不斷擴散。

珠頸班鳩本來只住響亞洲南部，之後被引入美國、印度尼西亞北部、澳洲、紐西蘭。

發音

唔少想寫個「㞗」字嘅人，會特意假借或者由於唔知情，用咗同音嘅「鳩」字代替。另一邊廂，因為前者為廣東話粗口，所以有傳媒同文教啲人講個「鳩」字時，會專登發個歪音——「kau1」。
