科學家

編輯問得真係好。「科學家」嘅英文「scientist」一詞係由威廉·惠威爾喺1834年整出嚟嘅。呢一個詞語嘅意思係「從事科學研究嘅人」[1]。
性質
編輯正常嚟講數學都係一種科學，不過依家啲人就唔係好覺得數學家係一種科學家。咁係因為數學同科學嘅尋證方法有啲唔同：科學發現一般都係用實驗嚟引證，但係數學嘅某啲發現不少都淨係得個理論而冇再用實驗去證明。

科學家同哲學家唔同。哲學家通常都淨係利用邏輯推理嚟理解啲非現實嘅嘢。除此之外，科學家都同工程師唔同。工程師會活用已有嘅知識嚟開發唔同嘅技術同實物嚟解決實際生活嘅問題。
